Part of the Christian life is putting away our ‘old self’ that was lost to sin and instead walking in the new life we have in Christ. As we come to know that sin has been put to death through the work of Christ, we can experience being set free from sin’s power and strive each day to put our ‘old’ ways behind us.
Humanity’s sin problem began with Adam, and we’ve been in that fallen state ever since. While it might seem unfair that we all inherit an unavoidable sin nature, how much more amazing is the undeserved grace we receive through Jesus Christ - the perfect man and Son of God - who gave his life to save us from that sin.
God, in an incredible act of love, sent His Son to be the sacrifice for our sin even while humanity was still lost in that sin. The good news about salvation through Jesus Christ is that we don’t have to figure out how to earn it. In our moment of greatest need, God provided a Savior as a gift we simply receive. The right response to that gift is to live a life of worship.
Life is full of milestones - fun ones like birthdays and graduations, and difficult ones like a bad breakup or someone passing away. Throughout history, God has used milestones in the lives of His people to remind them of His faithfulness. How can we use the milestones in our family and children’s lives to further grow our faith?
Every single moment with our families - from a quick car ride to a tough report card to a beautiful sunset - is an opportunity to encourage each other toward seeing life from God’s perspective. We don’t need to wait for the ‘right moment’ to point our families toward Jesus. So how do we prepare ourselves to maximize those unplanned moments of life?
What does your calendar and schedule say about your priorities? When it comes to pointing our families toward Jesus, it’s essential to use our time intentionally and with a purpose. God’s Word encourages us toward wisdom so that our schedules reflect a priority of discipleship.
It’s hard to build something without instructions. God’s design for families is that they would be the primary place of discipleship for the next generation. So how do we follow God’s instructions and intentionally build our family relationships on the foundation of Jesus Christ? What model does God provide in the Bible for the family?
When we think about the future, how do we make sure we’re following God’s direction for our lives? People often try to build their lives on things like success, career, money, recreation, fame, or even just comfort and ease. But the Bible is going to teach us that unless we put God at the center of everything we do, our pursuits will ultimately come up short. What foundation is your life built upon?
People try to find hope in many ways - through people, experiences, achievements, substances - the list goes on. But the hope we have in Christ is different. It's a hope that actually grows out of the hard times we encounter as we trust in God and as the Holy Spirit sustains us with His love.
