Ben Slager | Freshman Guys

Hi - I'm Ben! I am 25 and I have been attending Highlands for the last 16 years. I have had the awesome pleasure to grow up at Highlands surrounded by leaders and pastors that were there for me, and my goal is to do the same! This will be my 7th year on volunteer staff in student ministries and I'm excited to see what the year has in store.

Jey Woods | Freshman Guys

Hello all! I'm Jey Woods! I am a 31 year old professional dining server and business owner from Phoenix, AZ. I have been blessed over the past 3 years to get to serve as an HSH Volunteer Staff Leader. For my entire life, the Lord has placed it on my heart to serve others and inspire others to grow in their faith. When the opportunity to serve in the high school ministry was presented, I dove in head first! Stepping in beside these high school students has increased my growth in my own personal walk and has allowed me to further live my faith out loud as a leader. Being able to connect with students amidst their struggles and dive deeper into what it is that is influencing them has been a true focus of our ministry. Being able to show the love Christ, defining who he is, and helping grow each student deeper in their faith has been the greatest blessing to come into my life.

jason wales | Sophmore guys

Hi, I'm Jason Wales.  I am married to my beautiful bride of 20 years, Jesca, who also serves in HSH and we have 3 boys - Austin (18), Braden (14) and Hunter (12).  We moved to Phoenix from the Seattle area almost a year ago, and we are loving the sunshine, the beauty of the desert, and getting to know families at Highlands.  I previously served as a core group leader at our church in Washington. I am excited to be a part of the spiritual growth of our high school students as they read and apply God's Word to their lives.

Cory Franek | Sophmore Guys

I'm Cory Franek, and I've been going to highlands for just over a year now. I married Tiffany Franek, a small-town farm girl from Illinois in 2012. We met in Colorado and immediately shared two beautiful children, Ethan and Auna. Since then, we have had two daughters Charlee and Jordyn. I was recently asked to participate with the family ministry with highlands by a good friend and brother in Christ. After much thought, prayer, and due diligence, I've decided to step out in faith to serve.

Josiah Alipate | Junior Guys

Hey there! I’m Josiah Alipate and I am a 34 year old business owner from Scottsdale, AZ. I will be quite honest, I was apprehensive to serve on senior high volunteer staff. When I first felt called to do so, I was new to my faith and felt unprepared to lead. God then gave me the push I needed to step in fully. Spending time with these teens has pushed me to grow in my faith, and has helped me develop such an amazing relationship with Christ. At first, I didn’t know why I was getting into student ministries, but God opened my eyes. In a world where our students are so easily influenced by things that can push them off track in life, they need leaders who are willing to be in the trenches with them and to always guide them to the gospel. That is my commitment to your child and to every student that comes in to our ministry.

Darrell kidd | Junior Guys

Hi all! My name is Darrell Kidd. I am a published author, a third-degree black belt in mixed martial arts, and a lifelong learner. I work as Raine Digital's Vice-President of Organizational Innovation. I was inspired to become a leader for HSH during Mark Yule's Finding Your Purpose class. It just seemed to be the right place to serve and help grow the faith of our future. I am excited for the opportunity to lead your students.

Brandon Sowers | Senior Guys

Brandon Sowers the connector, world traveler, and business starter is stepping into his calling by helping high school students understand their true identity and overcome fears by hearing from Jesus. Brandon has employed hundreds of people, attended college in Australia, turned down a job from Richard Branson and a massive heart to see God’s will on earth as it is in heaven.

Madi branson | Freshman Girls

Madi is currently a senior at GCU, studying to become a teacher. She has been attending Highlands Church for almost 4 years, and has been serving in student ministries ever since. She is very passionate about working with students to help them grow in their faith, and show them the love of Christ!

Karlie Slager | Freshman Girls

I want to pour into the lives of these students because of how greatly I was poured into when I was in high school! I want to see these kids love Jesus the most and enter into heaven with a “well done my good and faithful servant”.

Zandra Cardinale-King | Sophomore Girls

I’m Zandra, I am a 27 year old entrepreneur from Phoenix. I love Christ, my dog, traveling, and being a part of anything positive in our community, especially at Highlands. During my time here I’ve met amazing people who’ve guided me in my walk from attending various events and small groups. It was then God showed me I am my happiest while serving, being in the word, and being around those who pour into my cup. He put it on my heart to do the same for others by serving our students in HSH! God gave me an amazing opportunity to grow in my own walk while guiding our students to the word no matter what they face in life. It makes my heart smile to witness their growth! I’m excited for another year with our students and our amazing leadership team!

Vika Tuanaki | Junior Girls

My name is Vika Tu'anaki, mother of six amazing grown children, and eight beautiful grand jewels! We moved from Northern California in June of 2007. While searching for a home church all over the valley, God directed our family to Highlands Church. We attended our first service in November of 2007 and have never looked back. My husband and I have always served in the 60's+ Ministry. In April of 2017, my beloved husband was called home to be with the Lord. That left me in a position to diligently seek God's face in where He would like for me to serve. When He said High School Ministry, I thought He was kidding. Even though I came up with all great excuses not to be involved, God's purpose always prevails! It is an honor and a privilege to serve our students!

Stacy Redmond | Junior Girls

I am so grateful that God has called me to be a student leader in His ministry. I have been married to my wonderful husband for the past 18 years, and we have three amazing boys. My heart is to serve these students by being an example to them, and to challenge them to really know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. It is my hope and constant prayer that each student will develop a deep, personal relationship with Jesus.

Jesca Wales | Senior girls

I have been married to my husband Jason for over 20 years. Together, we are raising our three sons - one in college, one in high school, and one in junior high. Upon relocating to Scottsdale from Seattle, I felt called to get involved in student ministries in order to serve the next generation for Christ.

alee Tranchese | senior Girls

I enjoy getting weekly opportunities to love and pour into the Senior Girls at HSH. When I reflect on how many trials I went through in high school, I think about how much better it would have been if I had been fully equipped with the gospel, and with a solid leader to listen to. My goal is to prepare these young ladies with the word of God, and always be there to show them love, and to point them to Christ no matter what life brings. I am currently a junior at Grand Canyon University studying marketing. I love anything and everything outdoors, including hiking, softball, and going to the lake. Walking in faith is not always easy, but I am so thrilled that I get to lead these girls towards being confident in Jesus Christ.

HSH Host Families

Grant and Courtney Bucks will be opening up their home for our Junior Varsity students both Freshman and Sophomore guys and girls.

We moved to the Valley 2 1/2 years ago after Grant retired from the USAF. They have a freshman at the U of A, a sophomore at Pinnacle HS, and a 5th grader at Pinnacle Peak Preparatory. Grant flies for Southwest Airlines and Courtney has been an early childhood educator, but is currently teaching the Bible to women. We are thrilled to open their house to the freshman and sophomore students at Highlands Church.

Jason and Jesca Wales will be opening up their home for our Varsity students both Junior and Senior guys and girls.

We are the parents of 3 boys ages 20, 16, and 14. This is our third year serving in HSH. Our desire is to be a part of this ministry to impact the decisions in students' lives, and to be available for them to ask tough questions and grow in their faith in Christ.
