First Steps is a 4-week class that helps new believers understand their new life in Christ. Each class will have plenty of time to ask any question you'd like about Christianity, God, faith, the Bible, and more. Equipping Classes

Join pastors, elders and ministry leaders of Highlands as they present classes designed to equip you to be a better follower of Jesus. Classes will cover tough questions about Christianity, encouragement about prayer and caring for others, and other topics such as challenging cultural issues and Christianity in the workplace. No registration is required to attend these classes, and each class session is a stand-alone experience that doesn't require having attended a previous week.

SUNDAYS at 9:00 am in Student Room B
Jan. 11 - Growing a Burden for the Lost How can we grow a genuine burden for reaching the lost—and why is it so important for every believer? In this class, we’ll explore what Scripture teaches about God’s heart for the lost and how we can cultivate compassion and boldness in sharing the Gospel. Join us to be inspired, challenged, and equipped to take part in God’s redemptive work.

Jan. 18 - Starting and Steering Conversations with Non-Christians In this class, we’ll explore practical, respectful ways to engage others in spiritual conversations without feeling awkward or pushy. You’ll learn how to listen well, ask thoughtful questions, and share your faith naturally—building bridges that open hearts. Whether you’re new to evangelism or want to grow in confidence, this class will equip you to speak God’s truth with grace and love.

Jan. 25 - What About Those Who Have Never Heard the Gospel? In this class, we’ll wrestle with this difficult and important question by exploring what Scripture says about God’s justice, mercy, and salvation. We know that God desires all people to be saved, but the reality is everyone won’t. So how do we respond? This class will offer strategies to engage with those who might ask us this question and biblical support.

Feb. 1 - Why Does a Good God Allow Pain, Suffering and Evil? Join us as we honestly explore one of life’s toughest questions through the lens of Scripture and faith. The class takes a deep look into what lies beneath questions on suffering and offers compassionate, thought-provoking conversation while pointing to God’s love and redemption.

TUESDAYS at 6:30 pm in Student Room A
Jan. 20 - From Old Testament to New Covenant: The Theme of Redemption We often hear as Christians that we have been “redeemed.” But what does that mean? The idea of redemption suggests owning something; losing it; and buying it back. That theme runs throughout all of Scripture. We cannot understand the fullness of the New Testament message without tracing that theme through the Old Testament, and the Bible as a whole. This class will trace that theme from Genesis to Revelation.

Jan. 27 - From Old Testament to New Covenant: The Theme of Messiah The idea of a “Messiah” (or Savior) is a theme of the entire Bible. When we refer to “Jesus Christ,” we are not saying a name - we are referring to a person (Jesus of Nazareth) and a title (Christos in Greek, or Messiah). The theme of a promised Messiah is developed through all of the Bible to its culmination in the New Testament. This class will explore and develop that idea.

Feb. 3 - From Old Testament to New Covenant: From Creation to New Creation and Eternity The earth is our home in this life, a planet created and sustained by God. But the Bible teaches it is not our permanent home, and that God has prepared an eternal dwelling place for his children. What did God have in mind in the creation of this world? And are things in this world meant to show us something about what God has created for eternity? This class will explore those ideas and what the Bible reveals about God through his creation.
